Questions 22: The diagram above (Fig.1.10) represents the velocity - time graph of a body in motion. The total distance travelled by the body is 195m. Calculate the acceleration of the body in section OP of the graph.

WAEC 1994 Ans: 2.5m/s2

Solutions

Total distance S = 195m

Total time taken t = 21s

Therefore final velocity or change in  velocity  v= distance/time

v = 195/21

v = 9.29m/s

Hence acceleration in section OP

Time t = 6s

Acceleration a = ?

Initial velocity u= 0m/s

Final velocity v = 9.29

Using v = u +at

9.29 = 0 +a x 6

9.29 = 0 +6a

9.29-0 = 6a

a = 9.29/6

a = 1.55m/s² Answer
