QUESTIONS 7. A body starts from rest and moves with uniform acceleration of 6m/s2. What distance does it cover in the third second?
A.15m B. 18m C. 27m D. 30m
JAMB 1992 Ans: 15m
Solutions
Initial velocity = 0m/s
Acceleration = 6m/s²
Distance S in the third second. It's between second seconds and third seconds
Using second equation of motion
S = ut + ½at²
Hence S = S3 - S2
S = ½a(t3² - t2²)
S = ½ x 6 (3² - 2²)
S = ½ x 6 (9-4)
S = 6/2 (5)
S = 3(5)
S = 15m Answer
